This afternoon, during weekly scheduled Prime Minister’s Questions, Prime Minister Sir O.stuart.O announced before the House of Commons his intent to deliver his letter of resignation of his seat as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to His Majesty, the King, effective Wednesday, 12 June, 2024 citing real life commitments. The Prime Minister will hold his final remarks outside of 10 Downing Street on that day at 5 PM EST/10 PM GMT, and the event will be open to all UK employees, friends, allies, and diplomatic guests. At this time, Deputy Prime Minister Hexal shall assume the duties of Interim Prime Minister of the United Kingdom until a general election is conducted.
Although the Prime Minister’s agenda and term was not fully complete, it marks a transition of the United Kingdom into its second general election. Dates on this process are to follow within the coming week from Buckingham Palace. Furthermore, it is expected that His Majesty, the King will dissolve Parliament as this grows near.
The Prime Minister thanks members of the United Kingdom for their continued support in this administration, and wishes to see many of you at Number 10 for his farewell address.
